Kelly Clarkson's complaint went viral. The store's owner told Business Insider that people in his life are hearing from her fans. Weiss Eubanks/NBCUniversal via Getty Images - Ben Shimkus/Business Insider Art of Play's co-owner told Business Insider Kelly Clarkson's post was "like a Molotov cocktail." The viral fight placed Adam Rubin's small Brooklyn shop at the center of a massive online drama. Rubin says the store got threats online — and hugs from supportive strangers. Adam Rubin said he wasn't supposed to come into work on Tuesday. The co-owner of Art of Play — a small Brooklyn-based shop with tarot cards, funky home decor, magic trick books, and a wooden bird named Molly — said he was supposed to get some stitches removed. Instead, he came in to answer questions about Kelly Clarkson's viral social-media complaint. "It's like she threw a Molotov cocktail at us," Adam Rubin told Business Insider. "And we're just here to pick up the pieces." On Saturday, Clarkson wrote on X that she had driven to Brooklyn to visit Art of Play and was treated as if she could not afford an item she wanted to buy. She compared the experience to the "Pretty Woman" scene, when Julia Roberts' character is dismissed by salespeople at a luxury store. Art of Play has an altogether different story. The store said Clarkson had asked to buy Molly, a one-of-a-kind bird automaton that was not for sale. Clarkson responded by calling the shop liars. On Tuesday, Rubin told USA Today the bird is now for sale for $15 million. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Art of Play (@artofplay) Internet sleuths have been attempting to sort out the drama, largely to no avail. Investigative journalist Pablo Torre is also on the case — an update Rubin declined to comment on. The back-and-forth has pushed an otherwise sleepy block of Brooklyn into a surprisingly large online drama. Art of Play sits adjacent to a hospital and across from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, in what Rubin called a "Robert Moses-abandoned" stretch of old buildings that had fallen into decay before businesses like his arrived. On Tuesday, angry Clarkson fans showed up outside the shop, Rubin said. "It's only a matter of time until a person carrying a Samurai sword and an 'American Idol' T-shirt shows up outside our store," he said. Several nearby businesses told Business Insider they didn't see the protests. The neighborhood's older residents were largely unaware of the very online drama, they said. The other businesses said the controversy only came up in conversations with people who worked in the area. They largely talked about the absurdity of their small neck of the woods getting national media attention. The fight, Rubin said, has gotten ugly online — and he said Clarkson's international stardom plays a big role. Her X post, as of publication, has more than 45 million views, while Art of Play is a local retailer with 172,000 Instagram followers. "We had no idea what would happen to us," Rubin said. "She did. She's the superstar." Rubin said the store has received threats and a barrage of online hate. He's also gotten a ton of in-person love, he said, including from frequent customers and strangers who came to visit. A woman he doesn't recognize came by to give him a hug, he said. The dispute is especially strange for Art of Play, Rubin said, because the business is built around in-person interaction. During Business Insider's visit, he noted that shoppers inside were talking rather than scrolling on their phones. Rubin said he would welcome Clarkson back, but he said she should expect the same treatment as anyone else who walks in. "We treated her like any other customer," Rubin said. "She wasn't happy because she wanted to be treated like a star." Clarkson's representatives did not respond to a request for comment. Read the original article on Business Insider

llm-gemini 0.35

Release: llm-gemini 0.35

I added support to llm-gemini for the new Gemini 4 Argon model, made available today via the Gemini API and for customers of their $100/month subscription plan.

Here are the low, medium and high pelicans. As expected, they are all excellent: Gemini has a track record of producing great SVGs, and are the only lab where I know their staff have invested in SVG specifically (and who have boasted about their pelicans before.)

Here's the "high" illustration, which cost me 17.166 cents:

The pricing is interesting. At launch, Argon is $2/million input and $10/million output - the same price as GPT-6 Sol, half the price of Claude Opus 5.5 and 1/5th the price of Claude Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra.

But on December 1st Argon is set to double in price - so it will be the same price as Opus 5.5.

Prices like this aren't really comparable these days since what really matters is how many tokens a model takes to achieve a goal within an agentic harness.

One useful clue for that comes from Artificial Analysis, who publish the total cost to run their benchmark using each model. Argon is looking very good there - costing $2,407 to run the benchmark, putting it close to GLM-5.3 and significantly cheaper than OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta's latest models.

When the price doubles it will still be a little cheaper than GPT-6 Astra.

<img alt="Screenshot of a stacked bar chart from Artificial Analysis comparing dollar costs for 14 AI models, sorted from lowest to highest, with bars colored by provider, the provider's logo beneath each bar and angled model names along the bottom. Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Illustration by Algi Febri Sugita/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Character.AI owes Google and five major law firms nearly $7 million combined, bankruptcy filings show. The AI startup, founded by former Googlers, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week. It owes more than $10.6 million to its 20 largest unsecured creditors, court filings show. Court filings show that artificial intelligence startup Character.AI owes nearly $7 million in combined amounts to Google and a group of Big Law firms, shedding some light on the financial strain behind the chatbot's bankruptcy. Character.AI, which lets users create personalized AI bots, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware on Monday and plans to complete a court-supervised sale of the company by the end of the year. The AI platform's bankruptcy petition shows that it owes its 20 largest unsecured creditors more than $10.6 million, including over $4 million to Google and $2.6 million to a group of five prominent law firms. Hogan Lovells was owed the largest amount among the law firms, at about $2.1 million. White & Case was listed as being owed about $189,000, while the firms Munger, Tolles & Olson; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan were owed roughly $137,000, $126,000, and $64,000, respectively. Representatives for Google and the law firms did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The court filing does not detail the nature of the debts. However, Character.AI, founded by former Google researchers, named Google Cloud its preferred cloud infrastructure in 2023. The startup has also faced a wave of lawsuits alleging its chatbots harmed or encouraged harmful behavior among young users. Character.AI agreed to settle multiple lawsuits earlier this year. The AI company's bankruptcy filings suggest that those legal troubles were part of a broader financial squeeze. Character.AI's bankruptcy petition estimated assets worth $50 million to $100 million and estimated liabilities in the same range. "The burgeoning and evolving field of AI entertainment, however, has proven to be costly to develop and grow," a filing in the case reads. "These high costs, coupled with potential litigation related liabilities and regulatory engagement have contributed to the Debtor's inability to generate sufficient cash flows to support its business in the present form." A Character.AI spokesperson told Business Insider that over the past year, the startup has "taken meaningful steps to sustain and improve our business amid significant legal, regulatory, and operational headwinds." The author (not pictured) said dance has reinvigorated her fitness routine. FG Trade Latin/Getty Images I was working out six days a week but still gaining weight. People urged me to try a GLP-1, but I my doctor said I didn't meet the requirements. I started incorporating dance classes into my routine and the weight started to come off. I'm petite, have a small frame, and have never had to struggle with weight issues. I regularly went to the gym six days a week, and have done so for years taking a combination of strength training and boot camp-style classes in addition to walking. Despite my efforts, I started adding on weight — just over 10 pounds in about 24 months. I didn't know why or what to do about about the weight gain. I was working out almost every day, but I felt exhausted and defeated. Others suggested I turn to medication. "Don't stress, just get on a GLP-1, and if your doctor won't give it to you, just grab it online," one friend told me. My BMI wasn't high enough for my doctor to prescribe medication, and I didn't want to override my provider's advice. But despite all of my effort, I wasn't seeing the results I wanted. The author said she started getting bored and the gym and washing pushing herself. She returned to dance, which she loved as a child, and transformed her mind and body. Courtesy of Leslie Vooris. I was bored at the gym Then, during a gym class, I realized I had become lazy. I was picking up the easiest weights and would go through the motions, never pushing myself too hard during workouts. The repetitive movements were just so boring. After that class, I tried to think of an activity that might bring me more joy. Wasn't there something else that could be more fun? That's when I decided to take more dance classes, instead of just the one I was already taking on Saturdays. I was hesitant to dance like I used to years ago I was a danced into high school, but I had to leave the program because of difficulties at home. The author, second from left, said she enjoys the sense of community that comes from dancing. Courtesy of Leslie Vooris. I always felt sadness and disappointment about quitting. I had continued dancing on and off as an adult, but I had never really returned to it in a meaningful way. I thought about how much I loved to dance as a little girl, grinning ear to ear even when I forgot all the steps. Research has shown that the surprising benefits of dance extend beyond physical fitness. Now I take four to five dance classes a week, a combination of modern, and West African. It's fun and doesn't feel like the same drag that the gym was to me. And I finally lost those stubborn pounds I had gained. When I take classes every week, I mix up levels to keep challenging myself and track my progress. Dance has also given me a community where we hold one another accountable and empower one another as we cheer one another on. Dance was the true exercise I really needed Returning to dance has helped me shed those few extra pounds, but it has also helped me connect to a part of me that is more accepting of myself and others. I'm happier and healthier than I've been in years, and no longer associate something I love with failure. I've learned that the workout that keeps me coming back is the one I enjoy, and it's never too late to try again. Read the original article on Business Insider
