The Flamingo is home to one of my favorite pools in Las Vegas. Tammy Barr My husband and I got married in Las Vegas, and we frequently come back to visit. We've stayed at every hotel on the Strip, and there are five resorts we love the most. The Flamingo has amazing value, and Vdara is great for families, but the Wynn is our favorite. Gone are the days when a Las Vegas trip just meant gambling and perusing nightclubs. These days, this city is also known for its world-class spas, golfing opportunities, and dining venues. My husband and I love Las Vegas so much that we even got married here in 2018, and we come back often for vacations. So often, in fact, that I've been to every hotel on the Las Vegas Strip over the years. Whether you're hitting the slot machines or just enjoying everything else Vegas has to offer, these are the five hotels I highly recommend. Mandalay Bay has some of the best pools in Las Vegas. Mandalay Bay features 11 acres of pools. Tammy Barr Mandalay Bay may be a bit south on the Strip, but it's still worth a visit. I love that it offers plenty of activities, such as the on-site Shark Reef Aquarium, a "crazy golf" club, and more. This hotel's 11-acre "aquatic playground" is also one of the coolest pool complexes in the entire city. You'll find a lazy river, a wave pool, and more — but my favorite is the Moorea Beach Club, an adults-only pool complex with cabanas and daybeds for rental. The real draw for me, though, is that even the most affordable rooms feel big and bright, with 550 square feet of space and floor-to-ceiling windows. I love that The Reserve at Park MGM has a sleek aesthetic and a quiet, private pool. The Reserve at Park MGM is a hotel within a hotel. ehrlif/Shutterstock A luxurious "hotel within a hotel," The Reserve at Park MGM — formerly known as NoMad Las Vegas — spans the top four floors of Park MGM. Compared with Park MGM's cheery and bright decor, NoMad has a sleeker, moodier aesthetic. The rooms include original artwork, hardwood floors, and beautiful small touches throughout. Whenever I stay here, I feel like I'm in a luxe, big-city apartment instead of a hotel room. One of my favorite amenities is the quiet pool reserved for Reserve guests, who can enjoy all of Park MGM's pools and cabanas even when the pool is closed. Vdara is a great casino-free pick for families. Vdara's suites provide a stunning view of the Bellagio fountains. Tammy Barr Vdara is a rare Vegas resort without any casinos, making this a great option for non-gamblers, families, and business travelers. (Still, if you're looking to visit a blackjack table, you can easily visit the nearby casinos at Aria Resort and Casino, the Bellagio, and The Cosmopolitan.) The modern suites with full kitchens provide an apartment-style experience. Plus, Vdara offers large windows with the best views of the Bellagio fountains and bright Vegas sunsets. My favorite budget hotel is the Flamingo. Built in 1946, the Flamingo is one of the most historic resorts in Las Vegas. Tammy Barr This is the best of the budget options on the Strip — and it's right in the middle of all the action. Whenever I'm here, I can easily walk to the monorail, High Roller Ferris wheel, and shopping hubs, such as the Linq Promenade. When it comes to the hotel itself, I love the Flamingo's outdoor garden and Wildlife Habitat (which, yes, features real Chilean flamingos). I also enjoy visiting the adults-only GO Pool. Offering the atmosphere of a day club, pool enthusiasts line up well before it opens to claim chairs and daybeds. Music blasts all day, and there are waterfalls, small lounging islands, and even outdoor craps tables. Finally, the Flamingo has several stellar restaurant options. One of my favorites is Bugsy & Meyer's, a steakhouse with vintage decor and a facade that resembles an old general store. Out of all the hotels I've visited, the Wynn is my favorite. Whenever I visit the Wynn, I make sure to watch the quirky lakeside lights show. Tammy Barr Wynn Las Vegas (and its sister hotel, Encore) is my absolute favorite hotel complex in all of Las Vegas. The rooms are modern, spacious, and comfortable. Plus, I love that they include thoughtful touches such as nice stemware and tablets for room controls, room service, and more. I'm also consistently impressed by the Wynn's food options. You'll find tons of high-quality restaurants here, including one of the few buffets on The Strip. Personally, I always look forward to having a sumptuous dinner at SW Steakhouse — and then, visiting the lakeside patio for a quirky light show. Tech Memo author Alistair Barr with Yossi Matias (right), head of Google Research, at Google I/O. Alistair Barr/Business Insider A version of this story originally appeared in the BI Tech Memo newsletter. Sign up for the weekly BI Tech Memo newsletter here. AI progress is increasingly framed around automation and job displacement. But Google executive Yossi Matias thinks the technology will be most important as a tool for helping humans make scientific breakthroughs. As head of Google Research, he's worked on many projects over a distinguished career, including Google Trends, autocomplete, and Duplex. Matias's interest has always been to explore what's next and then apply that to reality. He calls this the "magic cycle," and sees AI accelerating the process. Lately, he's been working on two ambitious AI systems aimed at accelerating scientific discovery: Co-Scientist and ERA, short for Empirical Research Assistant. Co-Scientist is designed to help researchers generate and rank new scientific hypotheses. ERA helps automate the painful process of building computational models and testing those ideas. The systems are already producing intriguing results. According to a new Nature paper, Co-Scientist identified potential new drug repurposing candidates for acute myeloid leukemia and helped uncover a mechanism related to antimicrobial resistance. I sat down with Matias during Google's recent I/O conference to talk about why he believes AI will help humans more than hurt them. This conversation has been edited for clarity and length. What excites you most about these AI science systems? "The notion that we can actually use AI to build these tools that help scientists in their research process, accelerate the science, ask bigger questions, and make bigger progress to me is really exciting." He said Co-Scientist can sift through huge amounts of scientific literature, generate hypotheses, rank them, and help researchers decide what to test next. "Imagine a world future where every junior, every scientist, including even students, are going to have their own virtual lab that can help them sift through endless literature," he said. "It's like having a polymath in your pocket." Why are hypotheses so important in science? "When you ask a question, like 'find me a new drug' or drug repurposing for a different condition, the way to actually address this is to create a hypothesis about something that might actually do the work and then refine it, and validate it," he said. The danger, he noted, is spending years pursuing weak ideas, so if Co-Scientist can help create and rank the right hypotheses, then researchers should be pointed in the right directions sooner. "Eventually that would lead to possibly a new drug or a new treatment," Matias added. Could this eventually help cure diseases like cancer? Matias thinks so, though he stressed the process will take time. "Cancer and other treatments, rare diseases, ALS. Now that we have a system that can look through data which is more global, then there's going to be a lot more opportunities," he told me. Matias cited a study Google did with the NHS in the UK on using AI to improve breast cancer detection using the technology as a "second reader" of mammograms. "We learned in that study that AI can actually identify 25% of the misses and can give back 40% time to the doctors," he said. And this was AI technology that's now five years old. "This was a study. Now the question for society and for the healthcare system is, how do we incorporate these learnings? And it takes time, it takes effort." "The potential of accelerating scientific research is significant, and as AI is becoming more powerful, I think that we're going to be in a better shape to actually keep reducing, keep addressing, and eventually perhaps eradicate. I'm quite optimistic that we are going to get to a state where we can actually identify everything that needs to be identified about diseases and find whatever solution that can be found." Does AI replace scientists? "I see AI as an amplifier of human ingenuity because it empowers the research scientists to ask bigger questions, pursue bigger impact, and to do it at a much earlier stage in their scientific career," he said. He compared future scientists to research lab leaders managing teams of AI collaborators, just as more junior software engineers are taking on broader architectural and strategic roles while coordinating coding agents to do much of the grunt work. Traditionally, it takes many years for scientists to run their own lab with teams of researchers, but AI could make this opportunity available to more scientists, he explains. "What was previously only available for very established and actually a small fraction of scientists, I believe, is going to be available to practically every scientist," he said. "The power, the effectiveness of every researcher is going to be multiplied, and we're not even close to answering the important questions that we need to answer." John Adams, 80, stays active without a gym membership. John Adams John Adams helped develop a medical device to treat coronary heart disease. Years later, he had two procedures to treat his narrowed arteries using the device he created. Now, at 80, he stays active without going to the gym and keeps himself busy in his shop. A decade after he co-founded a medical device to open up clogged arteries caused by coronary heart disease, John Adams underwent his own treatment. An electrical engineer and medical device entrepreneur, John Adams first started tinkering with the concept of intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) in 2007 with his partner, Daniel Hawkins. The idea was to use sonic pressure waves, or shockwaves, to crack hardened plaque in the arteries so doctors could place a stent and improve blood flow. They later co-founded Shockwave Medical, which commercialized the technology. Adams had previously had a quintuple bypass surgery after experiencing angina, chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart, in 2010. Nine years later, he started feeling tightness in his chest again and learned he had heavily calcified arteries. Adams took action. "Males, we like to ignore symptoms," the 80-year-old told Business Insider. "The fact that I have been in the cardiology business for a long time, I recognized the symptoms and went to the hospital when I needed it." Adams, after getting IVL treatment in London in 2019. John Adams Because IVL had not been FDA-approved in the US yet, he flew to London to treat the blockage in his right coronary artery. Adams recalled being in bad shape when he arrived in London, walking very slowly and often feeling winded. Two days after the procedure, he remembers feeling much better and wanting to go sightseeing with his wife. "We could see the London Tower, and I thought, 'Well, let's go over there and be tourists,'" he said, adding that they climbed over 200 steps of the tower together. He later had the procedure done in his left coronary artery at the University of Washington Medical Center. IVL was officially approved by the FDA in the US in 2021. Since then, Adams said he feels "fully back to normal" and enjoys an active lifestyle that involves flying planes, racing boats, and ATV riding in his home state of Florida. Still, there are a few other longevity habits that keep Adams feeling spry. He stays very active without setting foot in a gym Adams drives an ATV alongside his wife. John Adams Adams doesn't feel the need to go to a gym. "I'm just a very active person," he said. "I don't like to sit around, so I'm always on my feet." Adams, who started racing boats when he was 16, still races today with his family, in addition to jet-skiing and walking his dog a lot. He's also built two planes over the years, one of which he sold in 2017, when he started feeling chest pain again. "Since about a year ago, I've been feeling so good. I decided I'd like to start flying again," he said, adding that he began taking flight lessons last fall. "So I bought another airplane, and I'm in the process of getting re-certified to fly myself." He keeps his brain busy in retirement Adams prepares to ride a hydroplane, a high-speed motorboat. John Adams Often, retirement comes with the risk of slowing down too much; no longer having work as a daily purpose or challenge. Not so in Adams' case, who is always looking for something to fix or paint around the house. "I've just always been a hands-on person," he said. "We have a machine shop here at my house, and half the time I'm out there with my sons." Adams and his sons are passionate about building and maintaining their boats, including creating the motors from scratch. Family time is key Adams dances with his daughter at her wedding. John Adams Maintaining close relationships is a key part of longevity, which is why Adams spends a lot of time with his family. "My boys are here almost every day doing something in the garage," he said. "We're pretty close, and we're always doing things together," Adams said of his family. Both sons are also getting their pilot's licenses so they can fly with Adams. "I mean, it gives you a motive to keep on going, right?" Read the original article on Business Insider

I think Haebangchon is one of the coolest parts of Seoul. Haein Jung I have friends and family in South Korea, so I visit Seoul often. Recently, I've made a point to explore parts of the city beyond the tourist hot spots. I loved Yeonnam-dong's cute cafés, and the fact that Mangwon-dong feels like a true neighborhood. As a Korean-American with family and friends in Seoul, I've come back to the Motherland quite frequently over the last few years. On my most recent visit, I decided to explore a little differently. By this trip, I had already taken in the city's most popular hot spots: Itaewon, Myeong-dong, Hongdae, and Seongsu-dong. For those unfamiliar, Itaewon and Hongdae offer bright lights and nightlife, whereas Myeong-dong and Seongsu-dong are shopping havens for the city's trendiest brands. These locations are fantastic and worth a visit, but after several trips, I wanted to explore newer-to-me neighborhoods that felt more local and lived-in. Through my adventuring, I discovered four neighborhoods, each distinct and full of charm, that I'd recommend for those looking to explore outside Seoul's frequented tourist spots. Yeonnam-dong is a cozy neighborhood tucked away next to Hongdae Yeonnam-dong is scenic and charming. Haein Jung Featuring tree-lined streets, cute cafés, and curated shops, Yeonnam-dong is a charming enclave that sits next to the always-busy Hongdae. Even when crowds do spill over from the neighboring hot spot, they only add a nice burst of energy and liveliness to the area's picturesque streets. One of Yeonnam-dong's defining features is the Gyeongui Line Forest Park (also called Yeontral Park), a walking trail that stretches through the neighborhood and connects several nearby areas. I recommend visiting on a weekday, when the crowds are a little more sparse. Wander along the main street and peruse the neighborhood's boutiques and aesthetically pleasing cafés before settling on one that catches your eye. Yeonnam-dong's alleyways also offer more local, hidden-away gems, like Café Layered and Favourite Yeonnam. When the afternoon unwinds, head back to the walking trail and finish the day with a stroll past trees and an occasional gentle stream. I love exploring Mullae-dong's electric, art-filled blocks I love Mullae-dong's artsy, bohemian vibe. Haein Jung Mullae-dong was once a metalworking hub. When factories started closing, however, creatives began flocking to the area for its affordable rent. Today, the neighborhood can best be described as bohemian and hipster, where steel, art, and attitude meet. You'll find graffiti on abandoned steel shops, along with a diverse range of bars, eateries, and vintage shops. I'd recommend visiting on a weekend or in the evening, when the neighborhood feels most alive. In my opinion, Mullae-dong is best experienced with at least a little bit of a crowd around you. Discoveries can be found at every turn. A turn to the left might lead you to a row of alleyway pubs and bars, while the right might open into a tucked-away pizza parlor, a photo studio, or a sleek, modern café. Haebangchon offers great views and hidden gems Haebangchon has plenty of cool shops and restaurants. Haein Jung Nestled above the city, Haebangchon is a neighborhood that was once a refuge for displaced Koreans after the Korean War. Its name literally translates to "Liberation Village." Today, Haebangchon attracts trend-seeking locals to its hidden bars, restaurants, and cafés, tucked away in the nooks and crannies of steep, winding residential alleyways. When I was there, I felt like I was walking through a city in the sky. I visited on a Friday afternoon, and by 3 p.m., the area was already bustling with young couples and visitors mingling alongside the local community. A stroll through Sinheung Market is a great place to start your visit. Kitschy lifestyle boutiques, vintage shops, and cool food courts are scattered throughout the partially open-air marketplace. One pro tip: Make sure to bring comfortable shoes and a bit of cardio stamina. The neighborhood rests on the slopes of Namsan Mountain — if you're a hiker, you can easily trek to the city's landmark viewpoint. Mangwon-dong is an easygoing neighborhood that offers a feel for local life Walking around Mangwon-dong made me feel like a local. Haein Jung If you are hankering for a cozy vibe, Mangwon-dong might be the neighborhood for you. Of everywhere I've visited, it has the most distinctly local energy. I loved visiting on a weeknight to soak in the neighborhood's chill, after-work atmosphere. Here, you'll find Mangwon Market — a smaller, less hectic marketplace than the popular Gwangjang Market, but still impressive when it comes to its offerings. Vendors sell everything from street food to fresh produce and cuts of meat. A few blocks further, you'll stumble across old-school Korean barbecue joints, everyday local businesses, and retro, cool cafés tucked between them. Just one favorite is Han River Espresso, a small coffee shop that also serves cocktails and highballs. This neighborhood also offers easy access to the Han River on foot. Head toward Mangwon Hangang Park around golden hour, and catch the sunset with the locals on the riverside steps. It's an experience you can only find in Seoul. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at the iHeart Radio Awards in March 2026. Kevin Mazur/Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for iHeartRadio Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been engaged for nearly a year. Their couple style has evolved since they first appeared publicly together in September 2023. They often sport the same brands and colors when they step out together. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are among the most famous couples on the planet. Eyes have been glued to the pair since the earliest days of their relationship, with fans eagerly watching Swift attend Chiefs games and the couple going on date nights in New York. Over 37 million people liked their engagement announcement when they posted it on Instagram in August 2025. In the early days of their relationship, it was fun to see Swift try on a Chiefs jersey or Kelce don a friendship bracelet. Nearly three years in, as Swift and Kelce have become a more established couple, their couple style has evolved, too. From subtly coordinated Chiefs attire to sporting the same brands or colors, check out some of Swift and Kelce's couple looks, ranked from least to most stylish. Swift and Kelce wore subtly coordinating outfits at one of their first joint NFL appearances. Charlie Riedel/AP Images Swift and Kelce were photographed leaving the Chiefs game together on October 22, 2023. Both wore red to celebrate Kelce's team. Kelce's look consisted of a red-and-cream checked flannel shirt and popsicle-printed khakis, both designed by Billionaire Boys Club & Icecream. Green CNCPTS and Nike sneakers completed the outfit. Swift paired an Ellie Mae Studios vintage Chiefs sweatshirt with a black skirt. The look was cute, but it wasn't distinct from an outfit any other Chiefs fan might wear to a game. Though the couple's looks worked together, Swift's and Kelce's support for his team was the takeaway from the outfits, not their cohesiveness as a couple. They both rocked baseball caps at Coachella in April 2024. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attend Coachella in April 2024. Gilbert Flores/WWD via Getty Images Swift's and Kelce's outfits for Coachella also felt subtly coordinated, as they both accessorized their looks with a green-and-white baseball cap. Swift paired a black top and jacket with a black Halara skirt, black Gucci sneakers, and a black Stella McCartney bag. She also wore a hat representing "New Heights." Kelce, on the other hand, wore an R13 plaid shirt over a white tee, a colorful bandana around his neck, blue-and-white Martine Rose striped jeans, and white Converse high-tops. His "Happy Gilmore" hat was white with green font, making it the inverse of Swift's. The couple wore statement jackets for their first public date night in New York City in October 2023. Swift paired the Versace Medusa corset with high-waisted black trousers. She wore her Gant coat open, showing off the corset. The checked jacket was the only pop of color in her look, as her Aupen bag and Greymer shoes were black. Kelce's patterned Jil Sander coat was similarly the star of his look, though he wore a little more color than Swift. His Burberry pants were brown, which he paired with a white button-down and white Christian Louboutin sneakers. Both took an elevated approach to date-night fashion for their hard launch. The base of Swift's look was black, as she paired a backward Khaite skirt with a Balenciaga corset top and Louis Vuitton boots. The sheer floral top from Jean Paul Gaultier, worn over the corset, brought color to her ensemble. Kelce opted for a matching corduroy set, which he wore with a black shirt. Nike sneakers completed his laid-back look. Both Swift and Kelce made a bold fashion statement at the Chiefs' 2024 debut. Ed Zurga/AP Images After wrapping the European leg of the Eras Tour, Swift returned to Arrowhead Stadium to support Kelce in the first game of the 2024-2025 season. They both took a more glamorous approach to their game-day fashion than in 2023. Swift sported an all-denim look, including the denim version of Versace's Medusa corset top and denim shorts from Grlfrnd. The shorts showed off her maroon Giuseppe Zanotti boots, and she toted a Louis Vuitton trunk bag. Swift also wore over $60,000 in jewelry to the game, including the TNT bracelet Kelce had custom-made for her. Kelce left the game in a Lanvin set, featuring a white-and-orange ombré pattern that flowed from his shirt to his pants. A Homebred Legends trucker hat and Bottega Veneta sunglasses completed his colorful look. Pops of red connected Swift's and Kelce's looks for the US Open in September 2024. For instance, they attended the US Open men's singles finals, where they both wore pops of red. Kelce wore another coordinating set to the match, pairing a Gucci cardigan with matching shorts. Both featured red and green lining, coordinating with the red-and-green Gucci bucket hat Kelce wore with the look. Swift chose a red-and-white gingham sundress from Reformation for the sporting event. The dress featured a dropped waist and a sweetheart neckline, giving the summery look structure. Her outfit also featured Gucci touches, including her platform sandals and the bag she carried. Crap Eyewear sunglasses tied the look together. The ensembles felt more intentionally coordinated than some of Swift's and Kelce's past looks, highlighting how their couple style had evolved since they were first romantically linked. They also wore complementary sporty looks to attend the Stanley Cup Finals in June 2025. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attend the Stanley Cup Finals in June 2025. Swift, on the other hand, opted for a cream set from Area, pairing the brand's crystal-trimmed track jacket with the matching embellished shorts. She accessorized the set with cream Prada ankle boots and a black Chanel handbag. She also wore her hair in a braid, adding to the ensemble's casual feel. Both Swift and Kelce looked sporty and chic, and it was fun to see their looks ooze team spirit when paired together. The couple went for beachy looks for a New York date night in May 2026. Kelce's Marni button-down featured printed fabric patches, offering a modern spin on beachwear. He wore the look with black pinstripe trousers, MM6 Maison Margiela loafers, and his Rolex Daytona Rainbow watch. The pair had different takes on autumnal fashion for a date night in November 2025. Swift was dressed in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton for the evening. She paired a ribbed pullover with a mini wrap skirt, atop Fleur du Mal fishnet tights embroidered with floral motifs. Knee-high boots and a bag, both Louis Vuitton, completed the look. Swift's and Kelce's looks both read autumnal, with the former's gothic feel and the latter's red hue. They worked well together without feeling overly coordinated. Their outfits for a September 2024 wedding at Electric Lady Studios were some of their best. He wore a white Saint Michael shirt with black lettering and black boots from Louis Vuitton and Timberland. Almost exactly opposite to Kelce, Swift's outfit was almost entirely black, aside from the red bottoms of her Christian Louboutin sandals and red lipstick. The mint-green top had a corset bodice with exposed boning and sparkly detailing, offset by the simple, coordinating miniskirt. She played up the green with Jimmy Choo slingbacks in the same color. Swift also wore plenty of luxury jewelry with her look, the priciest being the bi-color tourmaline earrings from Dena Kemp, which cost $36,000. Kelce kept his look simple, wearing an all-black ensemble that included a Tom Ford polo shirt, trousers, and a leather jacket. He also wore Tom Ford boots, a Louis Vuitton necklace, and a David Yurman amulet. Swift and Kelce couldn't have chosen better looks for an awards show where Swift was nominated. She paired the dress with her Darlene de Sedle opal earrings, bracelet, and ring, once owned by Elizabeth Taylor, as well as Aquazzura heels and a clutch. Kelce chose an oversize, pinstripe suit from Fear of God, which he wore with a Lemaire top rather than a button-down. Tom Ford sunglasses and a Rolex Daytona Rainbow watch completed the look. Swift and Kelce looked stylish and glamorous, and their outfits felt cohesive without being too matchy-matchy. They found their footing with their couple style. Ron Seifert says candidates should ask about the company's philosophy on compensation decisions. seksan Mongkhonkhamsao/Getty Images A Korn Ferry benefits leader said candidates should ask two questions when seeking a salary increase. He said candidates should ask the company how they make decisions around salaries and raises. They should also ask about the review timeline to set expectations for future conversations, he said. It's common advice to ask for more during a salary negotiation — but the conversation shouldn't stop there, even if the answer is no. Ron Seifert, a senior client partner at Korn Ferry, who also serves as the company's workforce reward and benefits leader for North America, told Business Insider that new hires or current employees should always follow up with two questions if their salary increase request is denied. Seifert said candidates' first follow-up question should focus on how the company approaches compensation decisions. The question is: "How does the organization make compensation decisions for this role — including market data, internal equity, performance, scope of responsibility, and timing?" The goal, he said, is to better understand the company's compensation philosophy and decision criteria. Well-managed organizations should be able to explain the principles behind pay decisions. "This is not about challenging the employer defensively," Seifert added in a follow-up email. "It is about understanding whether the decision is grounded in a clear framework." Seifert said that if an employee is "materially underpaid," in the context of the market rate or their contribution, that creates risk for the employer. It could result in lower engagement and effort, or more openness to recruiter calls. Asking about a company's compensation philosophy, he said, encourages employers to show "a little bit of self-awareness" and consider whether they may be undervaluing a candidate. Revisiting compensation The second question he suggests is: "What would need to be true for my compensation to be revisited, and when should we agree to revisit it?" He said that simply meeting expectations doesn't always justify a salary increase. By asking this question, employees have a clearer timeline and goalpost to work toward if they accept the job — and an opening to revisit the conversation. The candidate should ask about the specific outcomes, expanded responsibilities, performance milestones, and market changes that would lead to revisiting the discussion. "That gives the employee a clear set of expectations and creates a natural point to reopen the conversation," Seifert said. Setting specific goals Bringing up goalposts during a salary negotiation can also help lay the groundwork for future compensation discussions. John Gates, founder of Salary Coach, previously told Business Insider that candidates should try to tie a raise request to a specific goal to better align incentives. Patrice Lindo, CEO of Career Nomad, a platform that helps professionals navigate career changes, also previously said that contributing to a company's goals can make it easier to justify the pay bump you're asking for. It's a strategy that has proved to be successful for some of the world's highest-paid leaders, such as Elon Musk, who tied his $1 trillion Tesla pay package to reaching certain company milestones. Before making any asks, Seifert also recommends that candidates do market research and gain a firm understanding of their market value. He said they should understand the pay range for comparable roles, and the business value they bring to the company. "Keep bringing it back to the data, the situation, and then your value being delivered and created for the organization," Seifert said. Read the original article on Business Insider

Bella Hadid at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Marc Piasecki/Getty Images The Cannes Film Festival was held in France between May 12 and May 23. Stars like Bella Hadid and Cate Blanchett attended in glamorous outfits. Others, like Heidi Klum and Demi Moore, missed the mark with their red-carpet fashion. In case you missed it, the red carpet was rolled out in Cannes, France, between May 12 and May 23. Celebrities flocked to the resort city to celebrate the Cannes Film Festival, which showcases new films and promotes highly anticipated projects from around the world. Naturally, many attendees made red-carpet appearances in showstopping fashion, from elegant ensembles to daring looks that push the Cannes Film Festival dress code. Others missed the mark with their looks. These are the best and worst outfits of the festival. Demi Moore had a princess moment in a shimmering gown at the festival's opening ceremony. Demi Moore at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Stephane Cardinale - Corbis/Getty Images The actor and 2026 Cannes Film Festival jury member arrived on the red carpet in a custom Jacquemus gown. Her strapless, white piece had a fitted bodice with a peplum waist, a mermaid skirt, and all-over iridescent sequins. It looked elegant on Moore and set the tone for the red carpet. You also couldn't miss her massive Chopard necklace. The sparkling piece had five rows of large diamonds that sparkled in the light. Heidi Klum's dress would have looked better in a different color. Heidi Klum at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images Klum wore an Elie Saab design in pastel yellow for her first day at the festival. The strapless dress featured a deep neckline adorned with a large pink flower, ruched fabric knotted at her waist, and a floor-length skirt with a matching train. Though the gown's silhouette worked great on Klum, especially with her wavy hairstyle, its light color washed her out. The same dress in a more vibrant shade would have been more striking. Jane Fonda proved that you can never go wrong with a sleek black dress. Jane Fonda at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Ernesto Ruscio/Getty Images The actor and activist wore a custom Gucci gown for the opening ceremony. The sequined garment had a high neckline, long sleeves, and a floor-length pleated skirt. It was the perfect choice to complement Fonda's curly bob hairstyle, and it was strongly accessorized with a diamond-and-stone pendant necklace. Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu wore a gown that overwhelmed her petite frame. Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Ernesto Ruscio/Getty Images The "Emily in Paris" actor walked the red carpet in a statement ruffled gown from Yves Saint Laurent. The fuchsia piece had long, exaggerated sleeves, a puffed semi-sheer skirt, and a cape-style train at the back. Though the gown's color looked stunning on Leroy-Beaulieu, as did her diamond accessories, its silhouette was too overpowering and distracted from her glamour. Elijah Wood showed why good tailoring never goes out of style. Elijah Wood at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Ernesto Ruscio/Getty Images Wood wore a classic black tuxedo at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. It comprised a double-breasted jacket, which he wore unbuttoned, a satin bow tie, and trousers tailored perfectly to him. The suit's strong fit made him stand out from other attendees who also wore menswear on the red carpet. The actor completed the look with leather dress shoes and a white button-up top. Moore returned on day two of the festival in a purple gown that didn't work as well. Demi Moore at the Cannes Film Festival. Valery Hache/Getty Images Her off-the-shoulder gown was crafted from a gauzy, see-through fabric that wrapped around her body. It was form-fitting and extended into a long, split train behind her. The color was stunning on Moore, but its shimmering material didn't photograph well. A lining underneath the custom Gucci piece could have improved the iridescent effect. Alexandra Leclerc and Charles Leclerc looked glamorous together. Alexandra Leclerc and Charles Leclerc at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Gisela Schober/Getty Images The newlyweds walked the "La Vie D'Une Femme" red carpet together in classic eveningwear. Alexandra Leclerc wore a strapless, semi-sheer Paolo Sebastian gown covered in rose-gold mesh and sequins, while her F1-driver husband wore a classic Giorgio Armani tuxedo. He embellished the latter look with a bow tie and a diamond, leaf-shaped brooch. Gillian Anderson's look was almost perfect — but not quite. Gillian Anderson at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Ernesto Ruscio/Getty Images The actor arrived in a sleek, baby-pink gown with four thick straps across the shoulders. The straps and belt around her waist were adorned with chunky crystals and pearls. Though the color and style suited Anderson, the Miu Miu gown's silhouette could have been tailored to her better. Aja Naomi King stunned in white. Aja Naomi King at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Mike Marsland/Getty Images The actor chose a white Miu Miu gown for the second day of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, and it was the perfect choice. The dress was made from a statement floral lace that was sheer enough to reveal her pink satin slip beneath. It also had ruffled feathers, adding another feminine touch. She completed the look with a diamond choker necklace and a white flower in her hair. Diane Kruger's accessories made her outfit look too much like a costume. Diane Kruger at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Valery Hache/Getty Images The actor attended the third day of the festival in a satin halter minidress with an all-over floral print. The Givenchy dress was pretty and feminine, and it perfectly matched her bow sandals. She also wore diamond jewelry that complemented the look. Unfortunately, Kruger also wore a thick green cape that tied around her neck and almost reached the floor. The piece didn't fit the outfit and made it look like a costume. Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse complemented each other in chic ensembles. Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Kate Green/Getty Images The model, who announced that she's pregnant, hit the red carpet in a powder-blue Miu Miu gown with sheer cap sleeves, a long pleated skirt, and a feather-fringed hem. The gown was stunning and had the perfect moment to shine, especially since her husband wore a classic black Prada tuxedo. Simone Ashley looked like red-carpet royalty. Simone Ashley at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Thibaud Moritz/Getty Images Ashley, who stars in "The Devil Wears Prada 2," matched the carpet in her strapless, red gown. The vintage piece, from Alexander McQueen's fall/winter 2005 line, had a form-fitting bodice and a pleated mermaid skirt. She wore the gown with a diamond necklace and her hair styled in loose waves. Andie MacDowell opted for an edgy look, but it missed the mark. Andie MacDowell at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Michael Buckner/Getty Images She wore an archival Alberta Ferretti gown that was black and made from semi-sheer fabric. The pleated piece had a long skirt, a sleeveless top, and a harness-style piece of fabric across the chest. The dress looked a bit too dark and serious for MacDowell, who is usually all smiles and fun on red carpets. Cate Blanchett looked like she'd stepped out of the 16th century, and that's a good thing. Cate Blanchett at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Laurent Hou/Hans Lucas/Getty Images Her custom Louis Vuitton gown was made from black velvet. The form-fitting piece had a mermaid silhouette, a short train, and a square neckline. All of the above worked for Blanchett, but none could compete with the gown's stunning ruffled collar. The latter highlighted her bob haircut and gave the outfit a medieval feel. Araya A. Hargate's accessories weren't the best choices. Araya A. Hargate at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Marc Piasecki/Getty Images Hargate wore a royal-blue gown from Tamara Ralph for the film festival. The satin piece hugged her body and had a structured bodice complete with a dramatic, off-the-shoulder waistline. The gown's shape and vibrant color looked glamorous on the actor. However, it was styled with a thick diamond choker necklace, a floral brooch, a thick bracelet, long earrings, rosy makeup, and an updo hairstyle, which aged Hargate and distracted from the gown's elegance. Chloé Zhao took a fashion risk that paid off. Chloé Zhao at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Lionel Hahn/Getty Images The "Hamnet" director arrived on the red carpet in an animal-print design from Schiaparelli. The semi-sheer dress, called the Isabella Blowfish dress, was tan with all-over black spots, a ruffled peplum at the waist, and spikes at the shoulders. The designer brand said on its Instagram page that the haute couture look was inspired by its namesake fish. Colman Domingo's outfit could have been improved with one small tweak. Colman Domingo at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Samir Hussein/Getty Images Domingo always shines on the red carpet, and his appearance at Cannes was no different. He wore a Valentino ensemble comprised of black trousers and a purple tulle top with puffed sleeves, sequined stripes, and a short cape in the back. He also wore a diamond brooch, rings, and a watch. The outfit was solid, but the pinstripes on his pants slightly clashed with his top. A darker pair of solid-black trousers would have made the outfit sharper. Bella Hadid looked flawless in white. Bella Hadid at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Lionel Hahn/Getty Images The model and Cannes regular arrived in a custom Prada midi dress. The satin, strapless piece had sequins across its neckline, and Hadid wore a matching bolero around her shoulders. She also wore white pumps, diamond jewelry, a slicked-back hairstyle, and glowing makeup. Renate Reinsve should have saved her sparkling outfit for a different event. Renate Reinsve at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Lionel Hahn/Getty Images The "Sentimental Value" actor hit the red carpet in a two-piece Louis Vuitton look. The custom set comprised silver, sequin-covered trousers and a black, sleeveless blouse that reached the floor and sat open across her torso. There were a few problems with the outfit. First, the top was too long and covered her statement pants. A shorter cut would have improved the look. Second, Reinsve should have saved the outfit for a more casual event, like a Hollywood movie premiere. Hadid returned to the carpet a few days later and perfected another white outfit. Bella Hadid at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Marc Piasecki/Getty Images She wore a custom Schiaparelli gown, which looked like it was made from small white doilies sewn together. The dress had long sleeves, a form-fitting bodice, a tiered mermaid skirt, and a plunging neckline that reached her stomach. The latter was held together with a black beaded appliqué. The dress fit Hadid like a glove and was one of the most unique looks seen at the 2026 festival. Read the original article on Business Insider

I've spent a lot of my life living near Disney World, so I've learned some great tips for exploring the parks and the area around them. Samantha Tetrault As a Disney World "native," I've seen tourists get a lot of things wrong when they visit the area. While in central Florida, it's worth checking out Disney resorts and areas outside the major parks. Don't feel pressured to do everything it all in one trip because there's no way anyone could. I consider myself a Disney World "native" because I grew up living just about 2 miles from the parks. Although going to Disney was a major vacation for many, visiting these parks on the weekends, for day trips, and "just because" was my norm.  Although it sounds surprising, the sheer number of tourists I encountered each day was one of my favorite parts of living in Orlando. Sharing this little corner of the globe with people far and wide was a special experience, and it made my community warm and welcoming to outsiders. Still, there are a few things I wish tourists knew when planning their trip to Disney World. There's plenty to explore outside the 4 main theme parks Dole Whip from the Polynesian Resort. Samantha Tetrault I love a day spent at one of Disney World's four theme parks, but there's more to the property than Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Popping over to Disney Springs (the shopping, entertainment, and dining district) is well worth your time. Plus, it's free to visit. I also recommend visiting the different Disney resorts, which have incredible themed decorations. Many have special shops and dining options, too. You don't have to be a guest to visit the hotels. However, you can't park in the lots unless you have a confirmed dining reservation. Hop on Disney transportation — like buses, monorails, or the Skyliner — if you're just looking to explore.  Although you have to buy a ticket, the two Disney water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, are also must-visit spots while in Orlando. Plan for rain even on the sunniest days In Florida, you can almost always count on rain. The tropical weather is unpredictable year-round. It could be beautiful one minute and pouring rain the next — especially in the warmer months or during hurricane season. Even if you're used to rain back home, it's a whole different breed here. You can expect huge gusts of wind, thunder, and lightning. Bring your own rain ponchos and umbrellas — and keep them with you. If you spot rain, head inside for a bit, but don't let it ruin your day. Odds are, it'll be over before you know it. It's nice to have a little escape from the Disney bubble There are things to do in Orlando outside of visiting Disney. Samantha Tetrault There's so much to do in Central Florida, and I wish I hadn't waited so long to explore Downtown Orlando, Winter Park, Winter Garden, and Celebration. You'll find amazing dining, shopping, and cultural sites. Or, better yet, drive to the local natural springs, state parks, or one of the state's beaches.  If you visit often, an annual pass can be a better value than you might think I'm a lifetime annual passholder, and it's really not that expensive if you visit the parks often — even if you can't benefit from the sweet Florida-resident discounts. If you don't live in the state, an annual pass can cost about $1,600 a year. Meanwhile, one-day tickets cost more than $100, and one-day park-hopper tickets can be over $200. If you're planning on taking a few multiday vacations to the parks a year — especially at peak times like spring break and the winter holidays when ticket prices peak — the annual pass may very likely save you money. Plus, the pass offers added perks, like not having to pay for parking at the parks, the ability to park-hop, and discounts across the property. You can always upgrade your day pass to an annual pass, so it's worth crunching the numbers if you visit often. Always travel in the offseason if you can Epcot looks especially beautiful in the spring. Samantha Tetrault As a native Floridian, you couldn't pay me to go to Disney World during a school holiday. Always do your best to travel in the offseason. This means skipping summer vacation, spring break, and the winter holidays.  Though not always possible depending on your family's schedule, you'll save a little time and money by visiting in February, May, September, and early October. Plus, the weather can be pretty mild and pleasant during those times of year. I'm a big fan of taking an afternoon break Naps aren't just for those under 5, especially when you're on a Disney vacation. The parks can get overwhelming, the Florida weather can be brutal, and walking all day can be tough on your body. If you plan to "rope-drop" the parks (enter right when they open the gates), it's a big ask to stay until closing.  Don't hesitate to head back to your hotel and take a break around 3 p.m. or so. Not only is this the warmest (and most miserable) part of the day, but it makes staying late so much more reasonable. If you're traveling with kids, this break is a must. Even if you don't want to take a nap, this is a great time to rest at the resort, jump in the pool, or just soak up some much-needed air conditioning. Arrive before the park opens if you want the 'rope-drop' perks It's especially important to arrive early during busy times, like the holidays. Samantha Tetrault It might sound nice to lounge around in the mornings, slowly but surely making your way to the Disney parks by opening time. However, I think it's worth heading over even earlier. This is especially true when there are popular attractions, like Rise of the Resistance and Flight of Passage, that you want to experience. After all, the first hour after the park opens usually has the shortest wait times. If possible, arrive at the park 30 to 60 minutes before opening. This will let you get the perfect spot in line to rope-drop. You'll never be able to do it all in one trip With so much to do in Disney World, you have to make peace with the fact that you can't possibly do everything in one trip. Even if you spend more than a day in each park, time has a way of getting away from you. Instead of rushing from activity to activity, focus on being mindful in the moment. The magic of Disney really comes alive in the downtime, so don't be afraid to go off on a midday adventure or stop and watch a sudden show.  It's better to go at a reasonable pace than to overwhelm yourself and your family trying to do it all.  This story was originally published on May 14, 2022, and most recently updated on May 27, 2026.
